“Happiness and the absurd are two sons of the same earth. They are inseparable.” Albert Camus
Do you like the absurd? Circus Treurdier does. They produce a crowdfunded show for Dutch tv and, for Dutchies and expats, you can go see their christmas theatre show Kerst met Kaak in the Bellevue theatre from 18 - 30 December. The show, based on the christmas classic Scrooge, focusses on a washed out nineties TV show host that nobody remembers anymore. Frederik Kaak is breeding a new TV format. It's now or never, his last chance of a comeback. But he ran out of inspiration, and out of red wine. His wife and daughter don't want to know him, he just has himself and his ego. Than the question is of course, can he fight his demons.
The show is filled with humour, melancholy and music. You will be the audience on his TV show, being sucked into the tragedy that is christmas with Frederik Kaak. Curious already? Go see it!
The Bellevue theatre itself is also great to visit. In 1938 it was one of the most modern amusementhalls in West-Europe with 5 halls. "Bellevue all zalen!" (Bellevue all halls!) meant a huge party. Even if the party wasn't even at the Bellevue, people used the frase to say how grand a party was. Without a doubt the most popular theatre in Amsterdam those days.
