Munch : Van Gogh

Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum brings together two of the trailblazers of modern art for a unique exhibition running from 25 September 2015 to 17 January 2016.

With this exhibition, the similarities between the two highly influential artists are researched in detail for the first time. Edvard Munch (1863-1944) and Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) are both known for their highly personal, expressive visual language, emotionally charged paintings and drawings and, not least importantly, their lives full of hardship. Their art is intense, expressive and radical.

Each November, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) transforms Amsterdam's city centre into a paradise for documentary film fans.

IDFA treats documentary lovers to the latest and greatest domestic and international arrivals from the documentary film world. No other festival brings together so many great films, devoted fans and talented film-makers in one place, making IDFA one of the world's leading documentary film festivals. The films presented at IDFA all tell extraordinary stories about life - often revealing and moving, they can also be shocking or funny.

The Amsterdam Light Festival is set to return on 26 November 2015, running until 17 January 2016, (literally) putting Amsterdam's beautiful city centre and its canals in the limelight.

Look out for dedicated canal cruises and a walking route (aka the Illuminade) taking in the selection of spectacular illuminated artworks. Also keep an eye out for guided tours and an extensive side-programme that will see a host of activities and events take place at museums, theatres, restaurants, shops and other locations in Amsterdam.
