From tomorrow the 12th untill the 17th of November you can enjoy KLIK! Festival in the city. The KLIK! foundation is a national and international force in provocative quality animation. With the festival as KLIK!'s flagship they bring their passion for and knowledge of animation to a wide audience. The Netherlands is blessed with an animation sector that shows considerable talent and creative potential. This years theme is the fifties.
On show are cartoons from the '50's, Cartoon Network classics and, my favorite, the French cat animation Gay Purr-ee. Made in the early 1960s, its style is best described as Cartoon Modern meets Van Gogh. Gay Purr-ee features the vocal talent of Judy Garland in her first and only animated role. The beautiful Mewsette (Garland) and Jaune Tom are cats living in the French countryside. Frustrated with Jaune Tom’s country bumpkin ways, Mewsette escapes to experience the refinement and excitement of ‘Gay Paris’. But when she falls into the clutches of the sleazy Meowrice, Jaune Tom and his friend Robespierre set off to Paris to find her.
When you get a ticket for our screenings, you’re are either in for a full-length feature or a specially curated program of multiple shorts, lasting anywhere between 65 to 80 minutes. For the younger animation freaks between 4 and 12, there is also KLIK! for Kids. Showings are either at EYE or Toren, on the north shore.
